Starting the School Year Strong

It’s that time of year...the air has a crispness to it that didn’t exist a few weeks ago, the leaves are starting to change color and the kids are back to school! For many families this time of year is an exciting one...kids get to spend quality time with their friends, they have new experiences and learn new things, and parents get a much needed break.

Unfortunately, the reality of back to school for struggling families often looks different. While back to school is expensive for everyone, families that regularly struggle to make ends meet have added pressure this time of year. Regardless of no employment, underemployment, or lack of disposable income families still have to find a way to provide the items on their kids’ back to school syllabi. We realize that the items needed for a child to have a successful school year can often times add up to hundreds of dollars, a scary thought for someone struggling to pay rent. We also realize that a little help goes a long way

This year, as we’ve done in years past, we’re trying to ease the burden on our moms and help them set their kids up for a successful school year. If you feel compelled to help us meet their needs, we have a couple ways that you can help!

  • If you find that you have extra school supplies at home and you’re local, we’ll have a donation box in our retail store. We’re located at 1314 Holden Detroit, 48202. Store hours are Monday-Friday 10-6 and Saturday 9-3. (This Saturday, September 7th we’ll be closed for Dally in the Alley).
  • If you want to help, but can’t make it to our store we have an Amazon wish list that we’ll continue adding to as the lists roll in. We’re a little late, we know that...Detroit has a funny way of providing back to school syllabi after the kids have gone back to school!

Remember - all purchases are tax deductible! TAX ID #81-2507397

Any donations that go above and beyond our kids’ needs will be donated to our friends at COTS.
